Menu Master is a tool to make it possible to provide a menu environment providing access to a number of applications. To build a menu application, the service provider defines the menus and displays in a specially formatted text file, which define the various menu options. This file is compiled into a fast load form, which is then used by the Menu Master program. This program will display the menus on the screen, and carry out the actions associated with each option. The menu display is normally done using the SMG utility, but can also function in a text mode, for non-VT compliant terminals. The service provider does not need to code the SMG calls directly, and can change the menu layout without recourse to changing source code.
The Menu Definition file (a text file with extension .MNU) is created using a text editor, and consists of Menu and Display definitions. For each menu, one or more option lines are entered, which define the text options that are displayed, along with the required action associated with each option. The Generator program is then run which compiles this file into a fast load file (extension .MENU) which is then input into the Menu Master executable. The Generator will also report any syntax errors found in the definition file. Here is a sample menu definition file
