PMDF Statistics Software Product Description
PMDF-Stats is a program which analyzes the MAIL.LOG produced by PMDF to give
a report of traffic flow between specified groups of domains. PMDF-Stats
can also be used to filter records in MAIL.LOG producing similarly formatted
output (in much the same way as ACCOUNTING/BINARY filters VMS accounting
records). Filtering (using wildcards) can be done on any of the fields in
the MAIL.LOG record.
The postmaster defines which domains belong to which group in a Group
Definition file, and PMDF-Stats produces a matrix giving the number and overall
volume of messages passing between each group. It can also produce the
following report types:
- Summary Report showing the total number and volume of messages into and
out of each group.
- Per-mailbox statistics, listing the total number and volume of messages
sent and received by each mailbox within a domain group.
- Site reports - a separate report file for each group, which can be
made available to site administrators.
- Transit statistics report, giving the time taken for messages to be
processed.
- Analysis of fax messages sent using PMDF-Fax.
Version 3.1 has the following improvements:
- Additional report types as described above.
- new /ADDRESS qualifier which will match an address in either
the sending or receiving fields.
- Volumes are now reported in floating point format in MB, as previously
large traffic volumes could generate integer overflows in the report file.
- New /SKIP_CHANNEL qualifier allows for filtering out of
records due to intermediate channels.
- Support for OpenVMS IA64
- All bug fixes to 3.0-10
PMDF-Stats comes with full sources and documentation (and no formal support).
