Network Consulting:

I have extensive networking experience. While in UCD I served on the HEA Technical Working Group, and designed the model for moving the Irish University email network from the older Grey Book software onto an Internet domain based system. While in EuroKom I was responsible for maintaining first the X25 and later the TCP/IP network providing connectivity to customers throughout Europe.

I am experienced in cisco routers and switches, and in the installation, configuration and maintenance of both cisco PiX and Juniper SSG firewalls. I currently provide such support to a number of Irish government sites.

Open VMS consulting:

I have been working with OpenVMS since 1983, when my first task was to upgrade a VAX 11/750 from VMS version 2.5 to 3.0. I have worked as a Systems Manager and Systems programmer in University College Dublin from then until when I joined EuroKom in 1990. EuroKom also used OpenVMS as the platform to run its network based services, including an Animal Movement (ANIMO) tracking service to the various EU Depts of Agriculture, a file transfer service to allow Microsoft to exchange code and documentation with east European localizers, and the MailKare anti-spam anti-virus Managed Mail Service (by that time, OpenVMS was at version 8.3).

    Upgrading OpenVMS versions.
Moving OpenVMS installations to new hardware.
    Performance Tuning.
    Troubleshooting.
    Cluster Configurations.

While in EuroKom, I was also the senior support engineer for the PMDF mailer and Multinet TCP/IP stack for OpenVMS. For further information on these products see the Process Software website. I now provide consultancy service to PMDF and Multinet sites.
